Bikram Method – Hot Hatha – Yin

FAQ

Why the heated room?

The heat warms up your body allowing you to stretch into the postures (asanas) in a safer environment. Thanks to the heat you can also work deeper in a shorter amount of time, seeing results faster. The combined heat and humidity also promote sweating which in turn flushes toxins from the body and gives you that wonderful glow from head to toe.

Is my Intro pass valid at both studios?

Yes, your pass is valid at both our Bondi Junction and Maroubra studios.

I have never done yoga before. Is this for me? What if I’m not flexible?

At Lava Yoga we offer classes for all levels irrespective of experience, age and fitness level! It doesn’t matter whether you are new to yoga/hot yoga or an advanced practitioner; all that matters is that you try your best. If you have never done hot yoga before we recommend you start with our Bikram Method classes and after a few classes join the LAVACORE and Yin Yoga classes.

Do I need to stay in the room for the full class?

We strongly recommend that you do stay in the room every class. If at any point you want to leave try sitting down or lay down on the floor and join in when you feel ready again. Commit yourself to staying in the room for the full class including the final Savasana (relaxation). The heat can be a big challenge for a lot of people at the start of their practice so just pace yourself and you will do just fine!

Of course if you have to leave, then that’s fine but try not to disturb your fellow yogis and please let your teachers know. This should be an exception, not a regular occurrence. Get your body acclimatised to the heat; don’t run away from it! This can be one of the hardest things to master but once you get it, you will transform your practice.

Can I practice if I’m pregnant?

If you are pregnant and want to come to one of our classes, you must first email narelle@lavayoga.com.au to discuss suitability.

Can children practice?

At LAVA YOGA we require a minimum age of 13. Children handle high temperatures differently than adults. They have a higher surface-area-to-mass ratio, which means they absorb heat more than adults do. They also have a smaller blood volume, which makes it harder for them to dissipate the heat. Lastly, they have a slower rate of sweat production than adults, and sweating is a mechanism to cool us off.

We do allow kids aged 10 and up to do our Yin classes, but they must be able to focus and not talk during the class.

We require anyone under 18 to have a parental consent form signed. Download the attached CONSENT FORM here (right-click on this link to save it to your computer).
