About Our Yoga
At LAVA YOGA we believe change starts with HEAT. Just like Lava can transform everything it touches, the moment you step inside the hot room you transform your body and mind.
At the core of what we do is our most-loved Bikram Method Yoga. In addition to this, we offer other classes such as LAVA CORE and YIN YOGA designed to complement your practice and enhance your mental and physical well-being.
What is Bikram Method?
Bikram Method Yoga is a 90 minute class consisting of 26 postures (Asanas) and two breathing exercises created by Bikram Choudhury. This class is done in a heated room (40°/40% humidity) to warm your muscles, prevent injury, allow for a deeper workout and cleanse the body by flushing out toxins.
Suitable for all ages and levels of ability, each posture stretches and strengthens specific muscles, ligaments and joints to give you a full body workout. The Bikram method also stimulates the organs, glands and nerves, moving fresh oxygenated blood to 100 percent of the body, restoring all systems to a healthy working order.
Bikram scientifically designed this 90-minute program to deliver total health through the balancing and strengthening of every system in the body in order to prevent illness and injury, promote weight loss, and limit the effects of aging. In addition, the series of postures combine skills of concentration, patience, determination and self-control that increase mental clarity and reduce stress.
What is LAVACORE?
Our LAVACORE classes are Hot Hatha Yoga classes in 45 and 60 minutes designed to complement your Bikram Method practice.
Using traditional hatha postures from the Bishnu Gosh linage that Bikram Method Yoga was derived from, these classes are hot and cardio based with a focus on upper body and core strength. We use a lot of the same postures as the Bikram Method classes and integrate other postures to further your core strength.
What is YIN YOGA?
Founded by martial arts expert and Taoist yoga teacher Paulie Zink, Yin Yoga was designed to complement more dynamic (Yang) styles of yoga like our beloved Bikram Method yoga. Yin Yoga is a gentle and meditative yoga class where postures are held for up to 5 minutes in order to stretch both the muscles and the ligaments of the body. By relaxing into the postures over a longer period of time, Yin Yoga poses apply moderate stress to the connective tissue of the body with the aim to increase circulation in the joints and improve flexibility. The classes are conducted in a warm room (28°) and students may use bolsters and blocks to support their practice. Receive maximum benefits from this yoga by practicing straight after a Bikram Method class.
